Welcome to Year 5

A quick introduction to our year

Throughout the year we will learn about the following exciting topics: Volcanoes, Pompeii, Vikings and Space. The children will learn about these topics by participating in research, discussion and a range of stimulating learning activities. We may also go on a trip or two to fully immerse ourselves in our topics!

Throughout the year, an array of stories, poems and texts will be used as the stimulus behind our composition and independent writing lessons. Independent writing lessons take place on a fortnightly basis allowing the children to demonstrate their understanding of the year five English curriculum.

In maths we follow the White Rose scheme of work. The following is a breakdown of what we will be covering each term.

HOMEWORK

We ask that you listen to your child read at least five times a week and that you sign their diary each time this is completed. Spellings will be given out each Friday and children will be tested on these the following Friday. You will find your child’s spellings in their spelling folder that they should bring into school each day.

If you have any queries please see a member of the year 5 team. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
