Welcome to Year 4

A quick introduction to our year

Swimming

Yew Class every Thursday starts 8th September 2022 and last session is 12th January 2023

Maple Class every Thursday starts 19th January 2023 and last session is 18th May 2023

Throughout the year, we will learn about the following exciting topics: Ancient Greece, The Roman Empire, The Rainforest, Japan and our local area Worksop. The children will learn about these topics by participating in research, discussion and a range of stimulating learning activities.

In Science, we will learn through experiments and investigations where possible; learning about water and the water cycle, food and the digestive system, states of matter, sound and electricity.

Throughout the year, an array of stories, poems and texts will be used as the stimulus behind our composition and independent writing lessons. Independent writing lessons take place on a fortnightly basis allowing the children to demonstrate their understanding of the year four English curriculum.

In maths, we use five stages of learning and follow the White Rose scheme of work. The following is a breakdown of what we will be covering each term.

HOMEWORK

We ask that you listen to your child read at least five times a week. Spellings will be given out each Friday and children will be tested on these the following Friday. You will find your child’s spellings in their spelling folder that they should bring into school each day. Times tables are an important part of the year four maths curriculum, and your child will take a statutory MTC (multiplication tables check) in year 4. Please encourage your child to practise these key skills both at home and at school using their TTRockstars account. Login details can be obtained from the class teacher. This is the web address: www.ttrockstars.com

If you have any queries please see a member of the year 4 team. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
