Core Words

In Hawthorne Hub, we use Core Words throughout the day to support every child’s communication. Core Words are simple, everyday words such as go, stop, more, help and finished that can be used in many different situations. Alongside modelling these words during play, learning and daily routines, children also take part in a dedicated Core Word session every day. Each week, we focus on one Core Word, giving children repeated opportunities to hear, understand and use it across a range of activities and environments. This consistent approach helps children develop confidence in communicating their wants, needs, thoughts and feelings, while supporting the development of speech, language and social interaction.

Attention Autism

Attention Autism is a fun and highly motivating approach that helps children develop their attention, listening and communication skills. Through exciting and visually engaging activities, children are encouraged to focus, share enjoyment with others and build their ability to concentrate for longer periods of time. The programme follows a structured four-stage process, beginning with capturing and sustaining attention, before encouraging turn-taking, interactive participation and, finally, independent application of skills. Each stage is carefully planned to build children’s confidence, attention and engagement, enabling them to access learning more successfully across the wider curriculum while celebrating every child’s individual progress.

Life Skills

Developing independence is a key part of life at Hawthorne Hub. Our Life Skills sessions provide children with practical opportunities to learn essential everyday skills in a safe and supportive environment. Children take part in activities such as preparing simple food, dressing independently, keeping themselves organised, following routines and learning how to stay safe. These experiences help children build confidence, resilience and independence, preparing them for success both in school and in everyday life.

Class Dojo

Class dojo is a fantastic way for you to see what we have been up to in The Hawthorne Hub and is a great way for you to contact your child’s class teacher too. Children are also able to add photographs and pieces of work to their profile. We love to see what your child is doing when out of school so feel free to add things into their portfolio for us to look at.
