Mrs Tawlks and Miss Prickett
Mrs Baines and Mrs Wood
Throughout the year we will learn about the following exciting topics: Stone Age, Settlements, Ancient Egypt, Rivers incorporating work on the River Nile and Let’s Explore the UK. The children will learn about these topics by participating in research, discussion and a range of stimulating learning activities. We may also go on a trip or two to fully immerse ourselves in our topics!
In Science we will learn through experiments and investigations where possible; learning about rocks and soils, light, forces and magnets, plants and animals including humans.
Throughout the year, an array of stories, poems and texts will be used as the stimulus behind our composition and independent writing lessons. Independent writing lessons take place on a fortnightly basis allowing the children to demonstrate their understanding of the year three English curriculum.
In maths we use five stages of learning and follow the White Rose scheme of work. The following is a breakdown of what we will be covering each term.
Place value Addition and subtraction Multiplication and division
Multiplication and division Money Statistics Length and perimeter Fractions
Fractions Time Properties of shape Mass and capacity
We ask that you listen to your child read at least five times a week and that you sign their diary each time this is completed. Spellings will be given out each Monday and children will be tested on these the following Monday. You will find your child’s spellings in their spelling folder that they should bring into school each day. Times tables are an important part of the year three maths curriculum and therefore your child has a Times Table Rockstar account in order for them to practise these key skills both at home and at school. Login details can be found in the front of their white diaries. This is the web address: www.ttrockstars.com
If you have any queries please see a member of the year 3 team. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
